The San Diego Airport Authority is seeking a highly motivated, technically skilled professional to fill the Manager, Airport Planning role. The Airport Authority prides itself as being a business-driven, passenger-centered, community-minded enterprise. The selected individual will serve as a trusted technical expert internally and by the community, will coordinate strategic airport planning initiatives, and will help lead an effective professional team including:
Coordinating airport land use compatibility planning and facilities master planning to meet the region’s long-term air transportation needs.
Supervising and collaborating with a team of experienced professionals on planning activities to achieve the organization’s strategic goals.
Encouraging new ideas and innovations, and designs and implements sustainable practices.
Negotiating and persuading effectively at all levels of the organization conveying information clearly and concisely.
Building strong relationships with key stakeholders within and outside of the organization.
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in urban, regional or transportation planning or a closely related field; and at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in a public agency or consulting organization focused on land use and environmental planning processes; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority was created on January 1, 2003, as an independent agency to manage the day-to-day operations of San Diego International Airport and address the region’s long-term air transportation needs.
The legislation that created the Airport Authority mandates three main responsibilities:

?Plan for the future air tr...ansportation needs of the region
?Serve as the region’s Airport Land Use Commission – and ensure the adoption of land use plans that protect public health and safety surrounding all 16 of the county’s airports.
The Airport Authority is governed by an appointed board of nine members who represent all areas of San Diego County and three ex-officio members. Three members serve as the Executive Committee.
