Materia is looking for a Materials Engineer for its Pasadena, CA location.
The Materials Engineer within the Materials R&D Group performs a range of technical tasks using experimental techniques, computational tools, and polymer thermoset knowledge in support of the development of new thermoset/polymer products under the direction and supervision of more senior level employees.
Manage the execution of complex and overlapping technical work plans related to the development of new products related to thermoset resin formulations by working closely with colleagues
Utilize engineering approaches combined with chemistry knowledge to support the efficient development of new polymeric materials including thermosets resins, reactive adhesives, and composites resins
Perform experimental work to identify thermoset / polymer formulations suitable for various processing such as coating, prepreg, and resin transfer molding
Leverage computational tools related to Design of Experiment and data analysis / visualization to maximize efficiency of experimentation in the group
Maintain careful records, produce reports and other documents with moderate supervision to meet technology dissemination, patent protection, and/or quality control needs
Perform other R&D tasks that may be required to support product development efforts and/or customer needs
Lead by example in maintaining laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safety
5 to 10 years of experience in formulation chemistry or polymer product development for target markets of aerospace, electronic / dielectric materials, specialty adhesives, or other high performance applications
Demonstrated experience in solving problems using combination of computational and experimental approaches using a broad range of thermoset chemistries
Compliance with safety procedures and practices
Good oral and written communication skills
Good time management and logistics skills
Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering, materials engineering or similar discipline
Ph.D. or equivalent experience in independent research is preferred
