Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities qualifies. Typically, a qualified candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Aviation Administration or a related field from an accredited college and have five years’ experience in airfield administration, two years of which must be at the management level. Preference will be given for accreditation certification from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) or a Certified Airport Executive (CAE) from the Southwest Chapter of AAAE. An FAA pilot’s certificate is desirable.
Applicants must possess excellent customer service and people skills; have extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local rules and regulations pertaining to airport management, safety, aircraft, aviation fueling, wildlife hazard management, security and aircraft operations; have a working knowledge of all airport systems (pavements, electrical systems, aviation fuel systems, heavy equipment, computerized equipment, lighting, storm water drainage, aircraft deicing, communication systems, and all aviation navigational systems). Applicant must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
