POSITION: Airport Operations-Operations Safety Compliance Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Operations
I. Position Purpose:
This position is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and performing all the duties and functions in the airport operational safety department which relate to airport operations. Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, performs professional work to ensure compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), State of Tennessee, and all city and county laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the management of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport and implementation/management of the Safety Management Systems program.
Bachelor's degree in aviation management, airway science or a related field and a minimum of one year experience in Airport Operations at a FAA Part 139 Certificated airport or a Bachelor's degree in business or public administration or a related field, supplemented by four years experience in airport operations at a FAA Part 139 Certificated airport or equivalent combination of education and experience.
FAA Pilots License preferred, but not required.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge of local, state and federal aviation regulation procedures.
Knowledge of the operations, functions, policies and procedures of a FAA Part 139 airport.
Knowledge of various federal program operations and their relation to airport operations.
Knowledge of FAA requirements as they relate to selection and training of airport personnel.
Knowledge of Safety Management Systems requirements and programs.
Ability to do accurate research and prepare reports.
Ability to comprehend federal regulations and changes and to respond accordingly to those changes.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with FAA and state officials and other City and County departments and divisions.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
Must successfully complete a fingerprint-based criminal history check and employment history check. Employees found to have an excessive criminal record or other misrepresentations of employment will not be eligible for employment.
III. Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts daily inspections of airfield, including paved and non-paved areas, for compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations regarding safety and security; maintains log of daily inspection reports; advises the President/CEO, Vice-President of Operations, Manager of Operational Safety and Fire, and Director of Maintenance of conditions and/or situations.
Conducts walk-through inspections of terminal facilities and notifies Airport Maintenance of any issues that may need repair.
Assures departmental compliance with all FAA and state laws and regulations; modifies airport programs to comply with new regulations; recommends and updates changes to the Airport Certification Manual.
Work involves the overall coordination of departmental operations in the area of federal and state compliance.
The incumbent is subject to twenty-four hour call for situations needing immediate attention.
Work involves the use of independent judgment within established guidelines and is reviewed through written reports and conferences.
Serves as contact person for FAA requirements including all personnel training requirements.
Advises the Flight Service Station and the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower personnel when adverse conditions exist through the issuing and canceling of NOTAMs.
Develops airport ordinances and procedures for implementing newly required FAA or other federal and state laws regarding airports.
Ensures all airport personnel are in compliance with FAA and state regulations and receives the proper training to remain in compliance with these laws; conducts airfield safety operation training.
Will assure Departmental compliance with implementation and maintaining of all Safety Management Systems requirements.
Performs other duties as requested.
May supervise subordinate employees.
Starting salary $40,000.
