Performs Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), airport operations and maintenance duties. Responds as part of a team to airport emergencies to provide fire and rescue services. Performs snow removal, inspections, maintenance, and operates equipment necessary to maintain airport property and facilities. Ensures safe airfield conditions and performs a variety of administrative, professional and technical tasks in support of the airport.
Schedule: Works rotational shifts that will include some holidays and weekends.
Responds to all airport emergencies, incidents, and accidents under the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Assists in the implementation of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), Airport Certification Manual (ACM) and the Airport Security Plan (ASP). Inspects airport operating areas to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations; communicate and initiate appropriate actions if unsafe conditions exist. Participates in building and equipment maintenance, snow removal operations, and the operation of heavy equipment.
Graduation from High School or equivalent One year of firefighting experience required, experience with airport firefighting preferred. Must possess valid State of Colorado Driver's License with a satisfactory motor vehicle record without restrictions EMT-Basic (either CO or NREMT) IFSAC / CO Firefighter I Completion of FAA ARFF training within 30 days of employment Completion of FAA ARFF burn within 30 days of employment Obtain a Colorado Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement within twelve months of employment Ability to pass annual physical agility test administered by the Eagle County Regional Airport Completion of NIMS ICS-200 within six months of employment Completion of NIMS ICS-300 within one year of employment Completion of NIMS ICS-400 within three years of employment Completion of NIMS ICS-700 within six months of employment Completion of Colorado Hazmat Operations within two years of employment Completion of Colorado Firefighter II within three years of employment Completion of Colorado Airport Firefighter within three years of employment Basic first aid; firefighting techniques and principles; heavy vehicle operation. Knowledge of FAA and TSA rules and regulations; understanding of airport (airside, landside, terminal) operations. Interpersonal skills necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Act reasonably and quickly in an emergency situation. Read, comprehend and interpret rules and regulations. Concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to pass and maintain NFPA/OSHA physical. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants, and other governmental agencies and departments, the community, airport users, and the traveling public. Write reports following a standard format with basic proficiency in the use of computer software and applications (i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel). Lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (25-50 lbs.) frequently, 50-100 lbs. occasionally; requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Work is typically performed outdoors with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, extremes of temperatures, noxious fumes and odors, exposure to hazardous situations during firefighting and rescue operations.
