We are currently recruiting for an Airfield Manager that shares in our desire to expand the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority (GFIAA) by creating an exceptional experience for our guests and employees. Our Airfield Manager/Superintendent will oversee and direct the employees and contractors engaged in Airfield Maintenance and assist in ensuring compliance with all appropriate Advisory Circulars and other FAA airport regulations.
The Airfield Manager will direct teams that focus on each critical area and develop leaders and associates to create a comprehensive program and team. Functional areas within the scope of this position include preventative and corrective maintenance programs for: Airfield Maintenance (roadways, taxiways, pavement, airfield electrical and snow and ice control etc.), fleet maintenance (heavy equipment and automotive) and grounds. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is a cold weather station so experience managing snow removal at a small to medium sized hub is required.
Licenses, certifications, or registrations required: Professional C.M. designation through American Association of Airport Executives and AAAE ACE airfield operations or airfield lighting maintenance certification. Must obtain and maintain GFIAA movement and non-movement area driving privileges. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge and ability: Associate degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Construction Management, project management or a closely related field or completion of technical specialty program of 18 months to three years in maintenance, construction management, electrical, or a closely related field. Knowledge of FAA Part 139 regulations.
Experience: A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in airfield maintenance at a small or medium hub (or large) commercial service airport with a minimum of 3 years lead or supervisory capacity. 3 years’ experience formulating and administering budgets. 3 years’ verifiable experience using computerized maintenance management software systems for asset, inventory and personnel management. Demonstrated, extensive knowledge of airfield lighting control and monitoring systems and high voltage airfield lighting systems and the safe maintenance thereof, including backup generation. Extensive knowledge of airfield marking requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assigns and directs the work activities of all Airfield Maintenance direct reports and assigned employees. Assists in the recruiting, screening, interviewing, selecting and training of new hires. Monitors staff performance and effectively recommends resolution of employee relations problems. Develops training programs for staff for proper and safe operation of vehicles and equipment.
Assists the Director in the formulation and administration of capital and operational budgets. Secures price quotes and prepares bid specifications for equipment and capital projects.
Reviews requests for services and ensures timely response and follow-up, determines whether problems can be resolved in-house, assigns repair work to maintenance staff and sets priorities.
Meets with airport users regarding airfield/ramp area concerns or projects and handles complaints and requests from users.
Serves as liaison with contractors on construction and contract maintenance related projects and reviews work of contractors for conformity to standards.
Supervises snow removal crews and is responsible for ensuring the best possible surface for aircraft takeoff and landing in accordance with Federal Regulations. Monitors the weather conditions including the amount of snowfall, air temperature, surface temperature and related conditions to determine appropriate response to snow and ice events.
Monitors and inspects airfield continually to determine maintenance needs required including grass mowing, pavement repairs, crack sealing, drainage structural needs, sweeping, and weed control and pavement marking. Prioritizes identified Airfield Maintenance needs.
Oversees the repair and maintenance of all equipment and vehicles used in the maintenance department and the Airport Authority.
Implements comprehensive airfield electrical maintenance program and ensures electrical maintenance and repairs are performed and tracked in accordance with applicable part 139 requirements.
Manages employees and outside contractors responsible for repairing, modifying, and maintaining airport grounds, pavement structures, security fence lines, markings and signage. May manage administrative and construction coordination for modernization projects within the Airfield Department and participate in design planning and review.
Coordinates work activities with the Facilities Manager.
Prepares, develops and maintains an ongoing comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all authority owned vehicles and equipment, airfield and roadway surfaces and airfield electrical systems.
Performs safety checks to ensure ongoing compliance with regulations such as OSHA, Part 139 and Authority policies and procedures.
Maintains records of time spent on jobs and provides job performance information. Manages and evaluates productivity by analyzing work order data.
Performs other related duties and acts on behalf of the Director of Maintenance in his absence.
