Under the general direction of the Airport Deputy Director, this position will manage the operations department to ensure the safe, efficient and secure operations of all facilities and airport grounds. Duties include supervision of, and participation in, maintenance activities, conducting inspections, snow removal, ensuring regulatory compliance, enforcing environmental regulations, security badging, ARFF training, and oversight of the wildlife hazard mitigation program and responding to emergencies.
This position reviews and acts on matters involving safety, security, customer service, and other situations as they impact tenants and passengers. Develops and implements approved Airport security, certification, and safety, and environmental programs in accordance with FAA, TSA, and DNR regulations and Airport guidelines.
The ideal candidate will be a driven self-starter who takes initiative to solve problems, fosters teamwork, and can perform tasks with limited instruction. The opportunity will provide for a well-rounded experience in airport, airline, FBO, ARFF, maintenance and terminal operations.
Essential Duties
Manage airport response to emergencies, i.e., respond to emergencies, coordinate emergency activities, and implement emergency plans, etc.
Coordinate opening and closing the airport (or portions of it) for as required by FAA standards based upon airport conditions and related safety factors.
Maintain relationships and serve as primary liaison with federal/state agencies including, but not limited to FAA, TSA, DNR. Ensure compliance with all Federal and State regulatory standards. Maintain ACM, ASP, and other manuals.
Inspect facilities, grounds and equipment and ensure safe and efficient operations; correct deficiencies and fix problems.
Direct the operation and maintenance of the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, Spill Plan and Waste Water system.
Responsible for hiring, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, training, counseling employees, and other supervisory duties.
Participate in and oversee ground handling operations for airline and FBO activities.
Participate in and oversee ARFF training activities and overall compliance
Participate in and oversee Food and Beverage service at the airport and overall compliance
Requirements and/or Preffered Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Airport or Aviation Management, Public Administration or related field required.
2-5 years progressively responsible experience in commercial airport operations at a FAR 139 certificated airport. Area of experience/focus may be varied (i.e. airfield operations, safety, ARFF, security etc.)
Must maintain a valid state driver’s license.
ARFF certified or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
Position will be required to work in outdoor conditions and various weather and perform maintenance activities
Must satisfactorily meet and maintain STA and CHRC background check requirements.
American Association of Airport Executives Accredited (AAE) or Certified Member (CM) preferred.
