JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the Safety Management Systems Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Airport Safety Review Committee and stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of safety for our airport and the community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supports the Safety Management System (SMS), related safety programs, investigations and communications for GFIAA.
Responsible for developing solutions to improve GFIAA safety reporting programs, tracking of corrective actions, and promotion of aviation safety.
Takes initiative to develop solutions to complex problems, synchronizes formal and informal movement and non-movement area safety audit programs across the GFIAA campus
Makes recommendations to leadership to continuously improve safety reporting based on trends identified via the safety reporting system Cityworks
Works independently to collaborate with teams across all divisions of GFIAA and other stakeholders in support of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM) associated with ineffective risk controls or new hazards.
Provides regulatory updates for SMS per FAR 139.401,402 and 403, in addition to Airport Certification Manual (ACM) updates for these sections.
Oversees, edits, and manages the airports SMS Manual including all revisions and updates.
Oversees and responsible for SMS on the airfield, terminal, concourse, and landside safety.
Handles safety related investigations found through any of the input systems of GFIAA’s Safety Management System (SMS).
Triages safety inspections/submissions for follow up and complete mitigation efforts and makes recommendations on next steps.
Coordinates record keeping as data collection for the FAA
Responsible for the management of the Cityworks application for Safety Management Solutions.
Influences and partners with multiple departments to coordinate cross-division safety analysis and reviews processes to ensure standardization and compliance; prepares and facilitates the Safety Review Committee (SRC) meetings and provides input to the Accountable Executive.
Communicates frequently with teams from all operating divisions to assess risk, coordinate maintenance safety reporting programs and track corrective actions.
Leads, schedules, and writes agendas for the Safety Review Committee (SRC) meetings.
Subject to emergency call-in during off-duty hours.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management, Aviation Safety, or a related field is preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted State of Michigan Motor Vehicle Operator’s permit, LEIN certified or certifiable.
Must have a thorough understanding of FAA Part 139 airfield management and operations.
Must have two or more years airport or safety management system experience.
NOTES:
Candidate must be able to pass required FBI fingerprint-based criminal history record check and a TSA security threat assessment in addition to pre-hire and random drug and alcohol screenings.
Must be available and on-call 24 hours per day, seven days per week and able to work any shift to respond to airport emergencies.
Candidate is required to be flexible in their schedule, modify their hours, and fill in where and when necessary.
Must always maintain an appropriate level of badge.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have completed NIMS IS courses: 100, 200, 700 and 800.
Must work towards obtaining NIMS IS courses: 300 and 400 within three years.
Must work towards OSHA 30 hour course within one year.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have good voice modulation and diction, sufficient oral acuity to clearly communicate in the English language.
Must talk and hear to communicate in person and by telephone or radio.
Must be able to work in a standard office setting and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the airport.
Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle on the non-movement areas of the airport.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in an indoor environment however outdoor opportunity will exist.
Occasionally exposed to extremes of temperature and weather conditions.
