The Port of Bellingham is seeking a Director of Aviation for this Washington State special purpose municipal corporation serving all of Whatcom County (pop. 232,000) approximately 100 miles north of Seattle and 40 miles south of Vancouver, Canada.
The Port is looking for a driven leader who will bring a strong operational mindset, exceptional people management skills, ability to integrate departmental cultures, and a hands-on approach to leadership. Direct experience in the aviation industry is not a requirement, the Port values proven expertise in managing complex operations, leading teams, and driving business growth.
BELLINGHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Bellingham International Airport is an FAA regulated Part 139 primary non-hub commercial air service airport that serves about 500,000 passengers per year. The majority of service is provided by Alaska Airlines, Allegiant Airlines and Horizon Airlines. The 105,000 sq. ft. commercial air passenger and cargo terminal provides related support facilities and ground transportation services.
THE DIRECTOR OF AVIATION
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Aviation is responsible for the safe, secure, and efficient management of Bellingham International Airport. The Director oversees an operating budget of $8 million, capital budget of $4 million, and a team of 20 FTEs. Direct reports include 2 Airport Operations Managers who supervise 14 Airport Rescue Firefighters, 2 admin assistants, and 2 maintenance technicians.
