The Safety, Environmental, and Health (SEH) Manager at Tweed-New Haven Airport oversees the development, implementation, and compliance of SEH programs, including the FAA Safety Management System (SMS). The role focuses on fostering a strong safety culture to protect employees, customers, the environment, and business operations. Responsibilities include managing SEH training programs, ensuring regulatory compliance (FAA, OSHA, NATA), conducting audits, investigating incidents, and implementing corrective actions. The manager chairs the Safety Committee, tracks safety performance, and updates policies, manuals, and procedures. They also oversee SEH compliance permits, conduct safety briefings, and liaise with contractors to maintain compliance. Additionally, they develop incentive programs to promote employee engagement in safety initiatives and ensure staff receive proper PPE training. The role requires regular reporting to management, risk mitigation, and adherence to all relevant safety regulations and best practices. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required; Master’s degree desirable.
Five years of Occupational Safety experience in the aviation industry, or similar setting.
Equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience may be considered.
Excellent communication, organizational, and technical writing skills required.
Strong computer skills required.
Knowledge and experience with implementing OSHA, EPA, and FAA SMS regulations and training.
Knowledge and experience in the aviation operations industry.
Experience in developing and managing various SEH programs in an aviation work environment.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general industry periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Must pass mandatory drug screenings, criminal background checks & obtain security clearance.
Must possess a valid Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
Completion of Safety Management System for Managers within six months of hire date.
Completion of AAAE ACE SMS within one year of hire date.
Completion of ALL OSHA required training within the first 90 days of hire date.
Completion of ALL other Certificates/Licenses as deemed necessary within one year of hire date.
