The Facilities and Grounds Manager at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is responsible for overseeing a skilled team that maintains and repairs airport buildings, systems, and grounds to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations. This hands-on leadership role includes planning and supervising daily maintenance tasks, coordinating with airport operations and tenants, enforcing safety standards, and addressing both routine and emergency facility needs. The manager ensures high-quality work is completed on time and within budget, leads staff training and performance management, and helps foster a positive, team-oriented work environment. Responsibilities also include maintaining airfield lighting, HVAC systems, plumbing, carpentry, and other critical infrastructure, as well as participating in snow removal and responding to facility emergencies. The role requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to operational excellence to support the 24/7 needs of a busy regional airport. The facilities manager plays a key role in overall airport functionality.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
At least 6 years of experience in commercial building maintenance or construction, including electrical and/or HVAC systems; part 139 airport maintenance experience preferred
Four years' prior supervisory experience
Strong knowledge of building systems, tools, and maintenance practices
Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills
Valid Virginia driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
Ability to meet TSA security requirements for unescorted airport access
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including during inclement weather and emergencies
Journeyman’s electrical license preferred
Experience in additional trades (plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry) is a plus
