Serves as the primary executive of the Authority and ensures that the Authority is thoroughly and continuously informed and educated of all matters relating to the airport. Reports to the TAA Authority Board of Directors. Supervises and directs all airport personnel in hiring, scheduling of work assignments, performance evaluations. Assists the Authority in planning for short and long-term development. Develops strategies to position airport for future development. Serves as the primary grant administrator and Assists the Authority in securing local, state, and federal grants and other funds through various resources. On behalf of the Authority, serves as liaison between the Tupelo Airport Authority and the Mayor/Tupelo City Council.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific, technical and aviation journals, financial reports and legal documents; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community; ability to communicate orally and in writing with the Authority, the media, and other public groups.
Capable of organizing and administering the functions of the Tupelo Regional Airport, including planning, assigning and directing the work of subordinates. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City of Tupelo departments and the Tupelo City Council. Ability to work independently of direct supervision. Must regularly resolve difficult technical questions relating to laws, policies and activities of the airport and the aviation industry. Ability to make crucial decisions, exercising judgment and discretion with regard to interpretation of airport policies, procedures and regulations, and with respect to FAA and other federal regulations. Maintains a high visible presence as a representative of the Tupelo Airport Authority with a wide variety of agencies and the general public.
Must have, or be able to obtain a current Mississippi driver’s license and must be insurable as a licensed driver for both liability and comprehensive (collision) insurance. Some bonding capacity may also be required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk clearly and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Some planning and management tasks will require site visits outdoors in all weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. While performing the duties of the job, the employee could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals and high noise levels.
