Responsible for decision-making of the day to day operational issues occurring on the shifts and adhering to operational procedures Maintains operational control during aircraft/airfield emergencies by providing incident management through coordination with emergency response units, tenants, and responding agency’s command centers. Maintains compliance with federal regulations during airport construction and implement safety measures. Communicates with other supervisors and operations specialists by using two-way radio and telephones. Supervises operations specialist by training, communicating policies, disciplining, scheduling, and evaluating performance. Completes reports such as incident/medical reports, wildlife strikes, and airfield inspections during shift and manually files reports.
Directly supervises 17 Operations Specialists. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems that occur on the shift. Performs related duties as required.
Bachelors’ Degree from a four-year college or university and five (5) years related experience in the management of airport operations. Work experience may substitute for education requirement
Experience supervising 15 or more employees in a multi-faceted task environment
Ability to obtain a valid Alabama Driver’s License Must pass extensive federal background check
Must be able to work a rotating schedule including overnight shifts and weekends
Ability to work overtime
Ability to be on-call and respond on a 24 hour basis
Must be flexible with work hours it will vary depending on department requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of airline and airport operations, fixed base operators
Knowledge of airport administration and procedures
Considerable knowledge of FAA certification requirements, policies and procedures; 14 CFR Part 77 and 139, TSR 1542 and 1544 and applicable Advisory Circulars and Security Directives
Ability to identify various aircraft
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, representatives of other agencies, and the general public
Ability to type and operate computer equipment, and use wildlife pyrotechnic devices
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing this job, the individual is required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The individual is required to bend or kneel. The individual is required to lift up to 20 lbs. Must be able to conduct visual inspections and operate a computer terminal.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is indoors and outdoors and it is noisy. Exposure to environmental conditions to include all weather conditions i.e. hot and cold temperatures, humid, wet conditions, traffic, bright/dim light, fumes/noxious odors, dusts and pollen.
