This person directs operations, maintenance, planning, manages a 34M FY2027 budget, and air service development under FAA Part 139 and TSA Part 1542.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Public/Business Administration plus 6 years of airport management experience (with 3 years supervisory); OR High School/GED plus 10 years experience (with 3 years supervisory); OR equivalent mix. Must have FAA FAR Part 139 experience, a valid driver's license, and pass a 10-year CHRC/TSA check. AAAE accreditation required within 1 year of hire. Must be a certified 14 CFR 1542 Airport Security Coordinator.

Must be able to pass a 10-year Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and all applicable TSA required security reviews.
The Sioux Gateway Airport (SUX) is a publicly owned, joint military commercial service airport. Classified as a Primary Non Hub facility, the airport operates with a Class D FAA control tower. It provides the Siouxland region with an affordable, convenient travel alternative, offering daily nonstop United Express flights (operated by SkyWest Airlines) to Chicago, Denver, and beyond.
Governance & Operations
The airport is governed by a seven member Airport Board of Trustees, an administrative body appointed by the Sioux City Council. SUX is managed by a lean, efficient core team of up to 20 full time administrative and operations employees, supplemented by seasonal laborers and student interns. The airfield features an advanced dual runway configuration, anchored by a massive 9,002 foot primary runway capable of handling heavy military and commercial aircraft. Landside operations include a Fixed Base Operator (FBO), multiple airfield tenants, and three major on site rental car companies.
The airport is entering a period of significant infrastructure development, backed by robust financial planning. For the 2027 fiscal year, the operating budget is $3,159,877, complemented by a ...substantial $34,635,000 budget dedicated to critical Capital Improvement Projects.
As a fully certified FAA Part 139 airport, SUX maintains an exceptional safety and compliance record. The airport was recently one of only two facilities recognized at the FAA Central Region’s Four States Airport Conference, receiving a special safety award after inspectors commended the staff for consistently going above and beyond federal regulatory requirements.
Located in Sioux City, Iowa, the airport is positioned 100 miles north of Omaha, Nebraska, and 90 miles south of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
